Are You a Virtual Assistant & Hearing “...

How many of you virtual assistants have heard, at one time or another, “So, when this virtual thing doesn’t work out, will you go and get a real job?” I am guessing some of you have.

When we embark on the entrepreneurial journey, a lot of people around us can have doubts or fears that it will actually work.  Couple that with an industry that not many people are familiar with and you have a recipe for a lack of support.

Becoming an entrepreneur, in this case a virtual assistant, can be one of the most freeing things you can do. Aside from taking control of your income, your work and your opportunities, you are also in a place where you could create jobs for people and create inspiring messages for people to come behind you.

However, some people around you may be feeling a bit envious of your leap of faith.  Of your ability to create and your ability to take control of your future. When this happens, they will comment on what you are doing not because they actually have an issue with it… but because you are standing in something so large that it forces them to look at themselves.  When people feel like they are falling short of their own goals and dreams, they will lash out at those who do because it’s easier than facing it.

I’ve been very fortunate in my virtual assistance practice to have very awesome support.  My close friends and family have always been there for me, have believed in me and have told me I can do anything I put my mind to.  Some of my other friends were not always so nice.  As I became more successful, people became envious of what I was achieving and they pulled away.

The thing is, I didn’t fault them for it and get angry.  Instead, I let them go.  If you have people in your life who are not supportive of what you do or who get envious when you reach various levels of success, they are not really in your life as part of your support system.  Chances are, these are also the people who require a high level of maintenance to maintain any level of relationship.

As a solution, find the people in your life who DO support you and stick with them. Support them as equally as you need supporting and create your inner circle of awesomeness.  If you don’t have anyone in your life who can do that for you, hire a mentor or a coach (even if once per month) and have someone who is in your circle, motivating you to success.

Believe me… you’re worth it and being an entrepreneur is a real job.  In fact, it’s the closest thing to reality that you can get in a career path.  You are entirely in charge of your destiny and that is a huge honor and a huge responsibility.  Own it.

How to Find Clients for Your VA Business #vatip...

I received an e-mail this morning from a virtual assistant looking for a document that I created on How to Find Clients for Your VA Business. I wanted to share that here with you all!

The document was created awhile ago so I would recommend now skipping the section on creating a professional profile. While helpful for compiling information for your website, it’s not a required part of being a virtual assistant.

Also, keep in mind that this list is not comprehensive and doesn’t focus on things like social media. That’s for a future blog post!

VA TV Tutorial: Eventbrite #vatv...

When it comes to setting up virtual or in-person events, there are many ways that you can advise your clients to do so.  One way might be to setup the event registration page on their website, use their shopping cart and their merchant account.  However, what happens when you are working with a client that doesn’t have any of that setup yet?

Enter Eventbrite.

Eventbrite allows you to create events (virtual or in-person) and have the entire thing managed by the Eventbrite software.  It’s social network friendly, letting people auto-share the information to Twitter or Facebook, and creates a sense of community around your events.

Eventbrite can even handle your payments (using PayPal as the gateway) and limit the number of available tickets.  There is a high level of customization that goes along with Eventbrite as well to ensure that you have ultimate control over your events.

In this VA TV tutorial, we take you through the process of creating a new event using Eventbrite.

Video quality will improve as YouTube renders the video.

Here are a few screenshots taken from Eventbrite‘s website (both interior and exterior):
